Chamba was founded in 920 AD (1100 yrs ago) by Sahil Varman in north Himachal. Situated in a remote glaciated valley of river Ravi, it has been a continuous culture since its foundation. A lamp has been lit at Laxmi Narayan temple everyday since then. more here

Why Sundar Shiksha?
Why Sundar Shiksha?
The name Sundar Shiksha litrally means 'Beautiful Learning', referring to the transformative power of education. Sundar, was also the name of Dev Swarup's father who was a Sanskrit teacher educated in the Oriental College, Lahore in the 1920s. He believed in the power of education and in investing in his children within his limited means.
After his early demise, his dream was carried forward by his wife Smt Shakuntala Devi.
Though his mother Shakuntala left school in 3rd grade, she was able to read and write and hence understood the power of education. She raised a family of 7 children. The photo has Dev's bua, mother and grand mother in the 1970s. The support of ones family towards education is crucial for success of children.
